Introduction

Lasting Earth UK was created in May 2006 as a result of the Earthquake disaster appeal in Central Java. An emergency relief was informally organised. A group of artists from the UK, Indonesia and France raised small funds to help the victims of the Earthquake disaster. The main key initiator of this emergency programme was Agus Bima, a man whose generosity is endless and who is always ready to help his community. During the first six months period after the Earthquake Agus had been busy spending his time rescuing people in Tunjungsari and Plumbon in South Klaten. He  mobilised eight teams from Central Java, totaling 88 people.  Since, there are today three - Not For Profit - organisations that are currently in operation; Makarti Bumi Indonesia led by Agus Bima, Lasting Earth France led by Pascale Jaquemin and Lasting Earth UK managed by Ida Rastini. Today Makarti Bumi Indonesia and Lasting Earth France continue their effort in building a sustainable organic farming system for the community in the areas affected by the earthquake.  Lasting Earth France has been successful in securing funding through Société Générale to continue with the existing recovery project in Jragung and Tunjungsari.

In the meantime, The Lasting Earth UK focuses its effort in education for under privileged children in East Java. Lasting Earth UK aims to promote arts and education through activities for the benefit of the communities in poor areas. It raises awareness of the importance of local heritage and environment. Lasting Earth UK also assists,  and explores entrepreneurial avenues such as setting up a small scale home industry and co-operative business using local resources. Lasting Earth relies solely on donations both through direct sponsorships or fund raising activities such as art exhibitions and performances. Such revenue, if any surplus to be re-invested in the projects in the best interests of the Lasting Earths UK  as a non-profit organisation. Lasting Earth UK is set up specifically for small scale and localised projects. We believe that small grass roots projects work more effectively and benefit directly the communities.
